About the ANF
Creation of the Anti Narcotics Force
Genesis
The Anti Drug Setup in Pakistan was established during 1957, which was then known as Pakistan Narcotics Board (PNB). Subsequently, in 1973 it was re-named as Pakistan Narcotics Control Board (PNCB) while in 1991 the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was established. On 21 February 1995 PNCB and ANTF were merged to constitute the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF).
ANF Strategy
The ANF being the lead drug control agency has a three-fold strategy, which includes supply reduction, demand reduction and co-ordination at national and international levels.
A. Supply Reduction
1. Dismantling of Drug Trafficking networks.
2. Develop and execute intelligence led operations.
3. Limiting the smuggling, trafficking and distribution of Narcotics through vigorous enforcement measures.
4. Coordinating, eradication of opium/poppy through Provincial Governments.
5. Ensuring, no heroin lab becomes functional on Pakistan\'s soil.
6. Inquire and investigate assets of drug barons.
7. Pursuing legal cases through the judicial system.
8. Strict control on movements of Precursor Chemicals through an elaborated precursor control regime.

B. Demand Reduction
Reducing the demand of illicit drugs through awareness programmes, preventive education, treatment and rehabilitation as well as harm reduction programmes and activities.
C. International Cooperation
For enhancing international co-operation in the fight against drugs, ANF is responsible for:
1. Maintaining liaison with all national and international narcotics control authorities/ organizations such as United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), International Narcotics Control Board (INCB), Interpol, Narcotics Affairs Section (NAS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the USA, Serious Organized Crimes Agency (SOCA) from the UK and Drug Liaison Officers (DLOs) of various countries posted in Pakistan.
2. Representing Pakistan in international conferences, seminars and workshops under ANF Act 1997, as lead Anti Narcotics Agency.
3. Coordinating training, projects and schemes of own and other Agencies.
