THE SECRETARY
Mr. Seerat Asghar
The Secretary of the Ministry of Narcotics Control
Message From The Secretary
It is an honour for me to serve as Federal Secretary of the Narcotics Control Division under the Ministry of Narcotics Control. The menace of narcotics trafficking and substance abuse is tremendously afflicting our country. Narcotics' trafficking is due to our geo-political situation. The adverse affects of this threat are alarming and are eroding the fabric of our society. The youth is especially vulnerable. This situation warrants special and focused attention to fight the menace.
We have achieved remarkable success in the eradication of poppy cultivation across the country. The consumption of heroin and other opiates has also been marginalized within our borders. However, a rise in the number of injecting drug users in the country poses a challenge. The Ministry of Narcotics Control is fully cognizant of the threat established by the consumption and trafficking of narcotics. We have been engaged with our neighbours, both bilaterally and on regional basis to putting in place effective narcotics control measures.
The MoNC, in consultation with stakeholders from government, NGOs and development partners has formulated a comprehensive five years Drug Abuse Control Master Plan. This Plan provides a clear strategic road map with financial commitment to achieve drug supply and demand reduction and spreading awareness among the target audience about negative consequences of drug abuse.
