Message From The Prime Minister
Narcotics trafficking and substance abuse are global challenges. Pakistan has successfully eliminated cultivation and manufacturing of opium and heroin. However, illegal drugs are being trafficked through Pakistan, taking advantage of our porous and vast borders.

My Government is aware of the challenges in regards to the trafficking and consumption of drugs. We have undertaken a number of measures to stem the tide of this menace. The very creation of the Ministry of Narcotics Control in the year 1989 is evidence of our resolve to put in place effective policy and operational mechanisms to check and curb the narcotics trafficking and drug abuse in the country.

The Ministry of Narcotics Control is actively engaged on many fronts relating to narcotics control. My administration is focused on drug supply reduction, drug demand reduction, rehabilitation and treatment of addicts. We have formulated a National Action Plan and a five-year Master Plan to cleanse our society of drug trafficking, production and consumption. We have also accelerated our contact with other international development partners both at a multilateral and bilateral level. It is imperative to develop useful linkages with local NGOs in order to evolve a uniformity of approach for providing treatment and rehabilitation facilities to drug addicts.

I sincerely hope that the Ministry of Narcotics Control, along with active support of other stakeholders, will be able to stem the tide of narcotics abuse in Pakistan.
